This participatory video installation reimagines the tradition of quilt-making through the lens of contemporary video technology. Through an open-call process, sixteen artist-participants submitted video clips to the lead artist, who worked in collaboration with a curator and an art technologist. Using algorithmically enabled software, these contributions were woven together into a collectively authored “media quilt.”
The completed video work was projected in the street-facing window of the 410 Lofts Gallery in downtown Baltimore during the winter of 2025. Composed of video fragments from all sixteen participants, the projection filled the gallery’s back wall at the corner of Eutaw and Mulberry Streets and was visible each evening for two months, beginning at rush hour.
The installation was particularly striking at this location, a heavily trafficked intersection shaped by both pedestrian and vehicular flow, as well as by the neighborhood’s ongoing social and infrastructural challenges. Its prominent placement drew the attention of passersby and local residents alike, including many who are themselves creative practitioners, fostering moments of reflection, curiosity, and informal engagement within the public realm.
There were several open-event evenings including an artist gathering and talk attended by the local community.
