Participants from the Blue Sky Project Artist Residency, Woodstock Illinois

Working collaboratively with local youth, as part of the Blue Sky Project, we generated a series of intimate performances within the context of a theater stage proscenium. The youth researched and made costumes from fabric and found materials that were an amalgam of historic dress, horror films, and crafts traditions. Their costumed presence on stage in an empty theater space generated behaviors, gestures and responses that flouted the contextual protocols of theater norms, making reference to the ritual of the theatrical experience, and its expectations as part of a mainstream cultural practice.
